Essex class carriers are vintage World War II carriers that served on duty for almost a half of a century. Having over a dozen roles it was the core of the post-war fleet. To accommodate the jet aircraft the flight deck and the landing system of the air craft carrier had to be modified. An angled flight deck, which allows the launching of several aircraft and the hurricane bow as added to not only allow more take offs, but to accommodate more jets per ship.
